Latest Updates for the Jesse Dayton Hardchargers

June 10, 2009

Hardchargers,

Rob Zombie just signed up legendary horror illustrator David Hartman to do original artwork for the new Capt. Clegg & the Night Creatures soundtrack CD from Halloween 2. Trust me, even if you're not a horror fan, you've still seen his work.

This record keeps building and building like nothing we've ever done. A piece will air on CNN (closer to the movie's release date), a new Capt. Clegg radio show, some TV appearances (we'll let ya know specific shows), and a full blown Clegg Tour. The new Capt. Clegg & the Night Creatures soundtrack CD will come out on Rob's label Zombie A Go-Go, but Rob has been generous enough to let me have my Stag imprint on the record as well.

On another front, we're looking at releasing (online only at first) the new JD recording of "Camden Town" at the same time we release a new JD produced Mike Stinson song. Then both will follow w/ full releases. Also, look for midwest tour dates this summer w/ Ryan Bingham.

This week we return to the BROKEN SPOKE in AUSTIN (9:30-12) where we do our Solid Crome Dance Show.

Ahhhh-yeee! We're goin to Cajun Country and I can hardly wait. This SAT. NIGHT in LAFAYETTE LOUISIANA we play at, what Playboy Magazine calls, "one of the coolest live music venues in America" at THE BLUE MOON SALOON. My pre-show ritual is to hook up w/ CC Adcock (if he's in town) and go to Dons' Seafood downtown and have an Old Fashion w/ rock candy in it served by legendary ol' bartender "Cliff." I always say, if I wasn't a Texan of many generations and I had to (at gun-point) move somewhere else in America, it would be south Louisiana. If you think I'm crazy, than you haven't spent any real time w/ the Cajuns. Their music, their food and their culture. Cajun saxophone great Dicky Landry told me once at a house party about 5 am in New Orleans..."If you have a bad time here shay, it's your own damn fault!"

brang it,

JD

Hardchargers,

And yet another Capt. Clegg fansite pops up (w/ killer pics from the set of H2) Check my Top Friends on the JD myspace or Top Friends on Rob Zombie's myspace. We've been in the studio doin' more Clegg stuff. All this studio time has my travelin' jones goin crazy.

This week we play THE BROKEN SPOKE on THURS. NIGHT from 9:30-12 in S. Austin. How legendary a Texas dancehall gig can you get? No line dancin', no cheesey bartenders servin' silly fruh-fruh drinks, no laser-lights, no disco-country, no bad rock 'n' roll bands, no obnoxious DJs' screaming orders to "wave your hands in the air and make some noise." I mean, you can say what ya want about Austin, but a place like this, that gets this packed w/ people every week, could NEVER exist in any other town on the planet. It would turn into a sports-bar w/ a DJ in a matter of weeks. Bob Wills, Ernest Tubb, Willie & Waylon, all played this stage many many times during their career-curves. Hell, the other week, it was me, Dale Watson, The Derailers, Bruce Robison and Alvin Crow all in the SAME week!

After the show Thurs. night, we head out to the rockies for a FRI. NIGHT show in PUEBLO, COLORADO on the outdoor stage @ THE GREENLIGHT TAVERN @ 8:00.

SAT. NIGHT I meet up w/ my buddy Ryan Bingham for a double-bill in ASPEN, CO. @ the legendary BELLY-UP for a throwdown up in ski-country (shows starts @9 sharp). My last show @ the Belly Up was killer, and this is a free show!.

SUN. NIGHT we're back in DENVER, CO. @ BENDERS TAVERN (you know it...it's got the huge picture of Johnny Cash on the side) for an EARLY show for the workin' folks @ 8:00. To say we like Denver is an understatement, we love it maaaahn....so brang it!

always, JD aka Capt. Clegg

ps Our show-opener, "Camden Town," will be out for the 1st time soon as a download only. More TV/ Film stuff is hot & heavy in the works. We'll announce it soon... Jerry Reed eat you're guitar pickin heart out.....son!

Hardchargers,

My new alter-ego, Capt. Clegg, is becoming more & more of a "thing." Videos, shows, public appearances...are all starting to take shape. How do I feel about it? SIGN ME UP BROTHER! These are weird times in the music business people. As regular radio playlists seem to get more conservative everyday (God Bless XM/Sirius for playing me..it's the HBO of radio), video channels show more talentless rich chick shows than actual music, record stores are closing everywhere, labels are scrambling to figure out how to operate off of downloads instead of physical product, newspapers and magazines w/ real music journalist are either closing down or reducing their writers to smaller stories on cool talent and cover stories on big cheesey format artist, and most festivals and large venues have all been hijacked by corporate sponsor dollars. Well, it's as weird as I've ever seen it. So being cast in, and doing music (Rob let me write & record the record here in Austin instead of NY or LA) for a movie that Rob Zombie is making, backed by Harvey Weinstein, that will open up in damn near 3000 theaters in Aug., is just another kick ass way to skin a cat. So there Hardchargers, that's what's up. In the meantime I'll do what I do best...another JD record will surface AND another ROADKINGS record will be out for the summer as well.

THIS WEEK: we're playing THURS. @ THE BROKEN SPOKE from 9:30-12:00 in AUSTIN. Last week RYAN BINGHAM and HAYES CARLL came out and both sat in w/ us. Ryan sang Cash...Hayes sang Jones. It was a blast. The chances of getting all 3 of us old friends together in the same town, much less in the same room, are damn near impossible. You never know whose gonna show up at the Spoke on Thurs. night.

SAT. is an early evening @ 6:30 sharp we play in DENTON, TX @ THE 'INDUSTRIAL STREET BASH" on the outside stage in front of DANS' SILVERLEAF w/ my new friends the TEJAS BROS. This show will be a killer one, so come on N. Texas....brang it!

Adios mi Amigos! JD

BREAKING NEWS: JD BAND & RYAN BINGHAM PLAY FREE SHOW TOGETHER IN ASPEN CO. @ THE BELLY UP ON SAT. MAY 16TH (SLC show has been cancelled, being rescheduled)...JD Band RETURNS TO DENVER @ BENDERS TAVERN ON SUN. MAY 17TH....JD BAND & HAYES CARLL PLAY THE STINGAREE MUSIC FESTIVAL ON MAY 30TH ON THE GULFCOAST IN BOLIVAR TX...word on the beach is on the 29th me, Hayes and Bingham are gonna all get up and jam together.

Hardchargers,

JD is saddle-sore after ridin' a huuuge 18-hand horse named "Big Red," all over Broken Spoke owner James White's ranch, on Sunday.

Enough of bein' a "Good Texan"....now we're back to work in the studio finishing up the final mixes for the Capt. Clegg and the Night Creatures soundtrack record for Rob Zombies new "H2" movie. Check out the new trailer for "H2" on RZ's myspace site that aired over the weekend on Entertainment Tonight. This movie is gonna go large!

Also, look for an online-only release of long time set opener "Camden Town." I know, everyone says the same thing..."I can't believe you haven't recorded that yet!". Well, now we have and it sounds badass.

This week the gigs start ALL over again: WED. NIGHT we play an early, make-up acoustic show (for Saturday's rained out show at the Crawfish Festival in Spring) @ PUFFABELLYS starting around 7:30 in SPRING TX

THURS. NIGHT we play the Solid Chrome Dance Party @ THE BROKEN SPOKE from 9:30 to 12 in AUSTIN w/ special guest.

FRI. NIGHT we play in DALLAS, TX at the DOUBLE-WIDE in Deep Ellum w/ Tejas Bros., 1100 Springs and Deke Dickerson for THE COUNTRY JAM SERIES. Show starts @ 7:30, goes all night w/ a big jam at the end w/ everybody. N.Texas do not miss this show. Myself, Matt the Cat, and Deke will surely get into some serious guitar shreddin' up in Big D. Brang it!!

always, JD

ps JD radio-show? in Houston or online....listen to the JD segment on The Outlaw Dave Radio Show sponsored by our friends @ Batter Blaster!

Hardchargers,

Easter weekend was the 1st chill time I've had in months. It was great, but it's time to get back to some ass-kickin'.

Now that the shoot for the new Zombie film "H2" is over, the internet is blowing up w/ new websites from fans all over the world. Check out myspace.com/captcleggandthenightcreatures for some raw footage. Check out myspace.com/halloweenzombie for a full listing of the cast. The JD Bands' new alias, "Capt. Clegg and the Night Creatures," is already being offered shows, and the record and movie hasn't even dropped. What a trip!

Until it all comes out in Aug., we'll be busy releasing JD music, and Road Kings as well. Look for an ONLINE ONLY release of a song we've opened shows w/ for years but never recorded, "CAMDEN TOWN"...w/ twin-fiddles, Nates' classic steel-guitar, and some shreddin' Tele chicken-pickin. It's sure to be a favorite w/ Hardchargers 'round the globe.

This week we're back in Texas at our Solid Chrome Dance Party in SOUTH AUSTIN, this THURS. NIGHT @ the BROKEN SPOKE from 9:30-12 (check out our new Broken Spoke/JD/Solid Chrome Dancer shirts)

FRI. NIGHT we play TROPHYS' on S. Congress for the "LONESTAR ROUND UP" CAR SHOW @ 11:00 p.m. Congress Ave. will be PACKED w/ the most badass hotrods you've ever seen in your life. This is THE event for kustom car kulture enthusiasts. Get there early... this show packs out.

SAT. we play THE TEXAS CRAWFISH FESTIVAL in SPRING TX. @ 4:00, where we throwdown for all the transplanted Cajuns (and there's alot) and those who wanna be Cajun. This festival has turned into a big deal since we first played it. Thanks to our last Gruene Hall show where we played an ALL original request-list, listen for a set of all originals (Harris Co. Blues, Blood Bucket, etc...) w/ some classic Cajun rockabilly tunes like "Diggy Liggy Li" and "Dance Hall Swing".....ahhh-yeeee!

Last but not least, check out the old footage of me, JOHHNY CASH, and WAYLON JENNINGS posted at JESSE DAYTON MYSPACE It was '96, so I'm lookin like a kid, but it was one of many magical days in the studio in Nashville w/ my musical daddies. This footage will be featured on a CNN story about myself and Capt. Clegg for "H2". Check CNN.com soon for listings.

"don't let the bastards get ya down," JD

Hardchargers,

After a looong film shoot in Georgia for Rob Zombies new "H2" movie, back-to-back gigs, and putting the finishing touches on H2's Capt. Clegg and the Night Creatures soundtrack...well, last week was a true ass-kicker. The movie and the soundtrack will be out this August, and I'll bet Rob Zombie will start dropping tracks from the record before that. The Capt. Clegg record is a total alter-ego sound, combining 60's go-go rock and rockabilly w/ a Bakersfield country sound, with ALL Halloween inspired tunes. A true first for me, and a great way to keep the music fresh.

The other news is that we're back in the studio this week workin' on the new JD Band record called "Texas Dancehall King," that will be a straight-up old school honky-tonk and western-swing record that's been influenced (sound-wise and writing-wise) by our shows at the Broken Spoke, and will be released soon. Look for the first single "CAMDENTOWN" (a song we've been opening our shows w/ forever) to be released ONLY online in the next week or so. Still amazed to see Hardchargers actually sing-a-long w/ "Camdentown" and we still haven't released it! Our crowd is fearless and loyal. I'd put 100 of y'all up against a 1000 of any of these disposable corporate radio band fans.

TUES. NIGHT listen to a JD interview on KNBT w/ Ray Wylie Hubbard from 7 to 9 (check KBNT online if you don't live nearby or in God's Country). If you live near by, come see us live at Tavern On The Gruene.

THURS. we play THE BROKEN SPOKE from 9:30 to 12:00.

Gruene Hall all request show 04/04/09

SAT. NIGHT we play a co-headling show on the big stage at the legendary GRUENE HALL starting @ 9:00. Most of you have seen us play there over the years, but this is our FIRST headlining bill on a SAT. NIGHT. If you've never been to the oldest dancehall in Texas, it's well worth the roadtrip. There's great food and hotels that are walking distance and alot of the Hardchargers who are comin from out-of-town are planning on spending the night after the show, even though it's an early show and y'all will have plenty of time to drive back. This show will be ALL REQUEST and we'll be playin' songs off "Raisin Cain"..."Tall Texas Tales"..."Country Soul Brother" and "Banjo & Sullivan," that we NEVER play live (even a few live-only rare ones that we never recorded) From the stage, we will dedicate the song to the person who emailed us the request, and then rip into a scorching live version of the tune. I'm excited about this gig. We need ya'll for this one, so braaaang it!

onward, JD

p.s. check out the pics from the movie. I eventually grow horns and turn into a devil-singer who slits throats as the Phantom Jam venue we're playing turns into hell. This movie will have a big-opening in theaters all over the world, and will definitely scare the hell out of even the most hardcore horror fans. It's more raw than last year's, so be ready to cover your eyes, but keep your ears open for some Halloween Honk-Tonk!

Hardchargers,

Several years back we were contacted by Social Distortion's management to do a tour w/ front-man Mike Ness. It was his 1st solo record outside the band (although we had played w/ SD on several occassions and also toured extensively w/ the Supersuckers and X) and to say the least, his hard-core loyal following showed up in full-force selling out every venue we played. Scroll down a few years to this past summer, and we're doin' another full US Tour together again and by this time we had quite a following (in most, not all) of our own in these cities. From the exposure we got from playin' w/ Ness, we literally built an audience made up of people who cared absolutely nothing about what was goin on w/ country radio or CMT. These people we're into Johnny Cash, not Rascal Flatts, and they also wanted something more than just another light-touch rockabilly band. With the majority of my friends that were country singer-songwriters, who've been sluggin' it out in Nashville for years (there are exceptions to the rule as far as friends who've really hit there, like Jack Ingram, Trent Summar and Bruce Robison, but most have not) me and the band still feel daaaaamn lucky to have gone out and played shows that really helped cultivate a following instead of having some cheese-ball booking agent just throw us to the lions on another shitty club tour, or even worse, touring w/ someone whose the flavor of the week. Soooooo, that being said ....after we play our show this THURS. NIGHT in AUSTIN at the BROKEN SPOKE (from 9 to 12) the next morning we fly out to play another sold-out show (as listed in the new Rolling Stone magazine) at the EL REY THEATER in HOLLYWOOD CALIFORNIA on FRI. NIGHT w/ Social D frontman MIKE NESS. This show will have a special component...King Double Bass owner JASON BURNS from the ROADKINGS will be joining my country band for one night only (along w/ Nate and Eric) to play this show. The rest of the weekend will be us finishing up Road Kings songs for the new record to be released after the first of the year. We'll also be in the studio putting some finishing touches on LA songwriter MIKE STINSONS' new record....there ya have it.....now brang it!

Adios Mi Amigos, JD

ps After years of goin round n round (with what has now become Austin music scene folklore) w/ the Continental Club about a dispute that happened over 10 years ago w/ Toni Price (yes there we're drugs and alcohol involved, but don't we like our artist to be a little broken w/ hopes that they'll recover one day? i.e.Amy Winehouse and Elvis)....Rick Broussard's Two Hoots and a Holler played to a great crowd last Sat. night and it was one of the best damn shows I've seen in a long long time. It's ALL still there....the true West Texas rock n roll songs...the Cajun Country sounds...the Punk Rock Star sensibilities onstage. I always tell musicians they have a better chance of goin to Hollywood and beating out Brad Pitt for a leading man role than making a living as a musician in Austin. It's tough town that you're better off expecting absolutely NOTHING from....maybe just maybe, Austin is waking up and rediscovering one of it's coolest musical resources?

See ya on the road, J

Hardchargers,

What a killer show on Sat. evening in Conroe. Some of you might have noticed we have Justin Kolb on upright bass back in the band full-time, and we also played alot of older material in our set that night. Daaaamn, we haven't played "Arkansas Chrome" or "Old Faithful" in a looong time. We'll be working up original tunes off of the older records in the next couple of weeks, so don't be surprised if you hear songs you've never heard us play live before our ALL REQUEST SHOW @ GRUENE HALL on APR. 4TH! Sat. night has sparked a whole new interest in workin' up alot of our back-catalogue. Don't forget to email us your personal song request for what song you wanna hear at Gruene Hall, and we'll dedicate them to you live onstage. We've already had some really cool requests like "Harris County Blues"...."Letter To Home"..."Raisin Cain"....this show will be a blast!.

Jesse Dayton at Gruene Hall, You pick the song by emailing stagrecords@comcast.net, April 4th 9pm on the main stage

New news on the Rob Zombie film I'm doin...we just got word from Rob that our last scene we did in the civil war graveyard in Georgia came off great and we will return to Georgia to film another scene in a couple of weeks. The cool news is, Zombie has decided to direct our music video (possibly more than one) for "Captain Clegg and the Night Creatures" Could we get anybody cooler and more knowledgable about directing edgey, badass music videos than the guy who directed "Dragula"? (Zombie's hit song about the Munsters hotrod built by George Barris) Listening parties for the Captain Clegg soundtrack and video are in discussions now and the movie "H2" (or Halloween 2) will be out soon.

This week we play the hallowed honky-tonk of all honky-tonks in S. Austin, THE BROKEN SPOKE on S.Lamar from 9:30 'til 12,(look for our new Broken Spoke/Solid Chrome Dancer T-shirts and by SXSW we will be recording the show and burning live CDS for sale that night right after the gig)....

FRIDAY we're back in HOUSTON TX. playin our friends Levi and Jim Goodes' place next to Goode Co. BBQ on Kirby St., THE ARMADILLO PALACE (10:00 to 12), where we will be throwing down new tunes for a crowd that never seems to let up. I don't know what it is, but when we play this place it turns into something other than a Rice Village yuppie hangout. Face it, once our Hardchargers invade the joint, it just ain't the same..

SUN. AFTERNOON I play the Anniversary party for KPFT Radio at the MUCKY DUCK w/ singer-songwriter MIKE STINSON around 5:00. KPFT has been such a huge part of my career (1st station I ever heard myself on ...not to mention a huge influence on me when I was younger living in the Montrose and starting to combine songwriters like Guy Clark and Townes Van Zant style lyrics into the roots rockabilly and country I was living, eating and breathing...I knew there was more to write about than pink Cadillacs and chicks w/ poodle skirts) and no matter what heights we achieve career-wise, I will always come and support them for helping me in those grim/starving early days in that tiny apartment in Houston. If you're a real music fan (not to be confused w/ most Americans these days, who are only impressed by celebrity) and you live in Houston, you need to come out for this show and support the best Americana station in America....brang it y'all!

vio con dios amigos, JD

p.s. Next week we'll be releasing a statement to the press about a new RADIO SHOW I'll be involved w/. This is gonna seriously kick ass. Also, as we get the info about it, we will let you know when the CNN interview comes out. Until then, I'll put my blinders back on, fasten my tool-belt, and get my cracker ass back to work!!!
