It's 5 a.m. and she's got his coffee thermos when he walks out the door And it's him and his truck down a road He drove to work for 30 years or more Hired on at only 17 still kinda wet behind his ears And this morning on his desk there's a note that confirms his fears
They were making some changes upstairs And they said they were sorry Then they thanked me for my years They said I was getting old and now it's time to go
Luckily all the kids are grown and gone And it's just him and her And at 52 he's scared as hell and wonders how this all occurred So he's driving back home at 6 a.m. for the first time in his life And besides knowing how to do nothing else He wonders how he's gonna tell his wife
So he thinks, at least I still got my health One good wife and some dusty trophies on my shelf But the question in his heart still remains What in the hell am I gonna do with myself?
