Panhandle Jane

"Oh, this is a good story! I was having drinks in the Hill Country with a pro rodeo star, and he told me all bout his great-great-grandfather who used to run the Charlie Goodnight Trail in Texas. When I got home that night, I wrote this song about a girl his great-great-grandfather used to know."

That Charlie Goodnight Trail's calling my name
Up through Amarillo, out on them great plains
Lives a maiden who's as right as rain
The buckle-bunny legend of rodeo fame
Swinging lass, dances hard and fast
And everybody knows her as Panhandle Jane

Well back at the ranch, they forget about her past
With any buckaroos that buy her sassafrass
When them ol' boots won't take it no more
Jane swings 'em clean out the door
Swinging lass, dances hard and fast
And everybody knows her as Panhandle Jane

Well, she's the cat's meow
Bust any bronc' and then rope any cow
From Amarillo up to ol' Cheyenne
Jane's the hippest cowgirl in the lone star land
